Seeing the porcupine in a tree!
Our wild life adventure!!
At the end of our field trip, the kids were playing on a creek, made by melting snow in the very back of the east quarter, in the middle of some willows. The truck was close, and we were enjoying the exploring time. Jeff had seen a bear there before, but we had been noisy and we hadn't seen anything so far. Then as we were walking back to the truck amongst the trees, we saw some old bear scat. Then in a snow bank we saw some bear tracks. . . which Jeff thought were a few days old . . . I even wasn't too worried. Tyler was getting tired, so Jeff and I took him to the truck. The kids were still exploring and Jeff yelled to them that they could run upto the tire water trough, past the trees, and up by the fence and we would pick them up there. After we'd seen the bear track, Lindy decided she was riding in the truck, the others took a bit of a detour away from the trees. As we were driving, Jeff was watching the trees and sure enough there was a bear, lounging in the shade, just watching us. It wasn't in any hurry to go anywhere, but eventually, prodded by the dog barking, it got up and ambled up to a snow bank and sat watching us as we were watching him. Exciting stuff!
And to add to the excitement after that, we found a porcupine in a tree.
Close encounters of the wildlife kind!!
